With the number of older people that are living to advanced ages increasing so quickly, it is not surprising we have also seen a rapid increase in home care providers to meet their needs.

With several thousand public and private home care organizations nationwide, and new ones opening every day, many states have established licensure laws governing these care organizations. However, not all states have the same licensure laws, and in some cases none at all.

Home care accreditation agencies have arisen to meet the growing demand for consumer protection, and help establish a certain level of quality and accountability in the home care industry. Agencies evaluate and monitor providers and caregivers to ensure that they are fulfilling their responsibilities in providing quality care services and upholding good business practices.

How Can an Accreditation Agency Help?

Accreditation can be a good means of measuring the organizational management, patient safety practices. quality of services provided and service outcomes.

Most home care providers are of the highest quality and deserve your trust, however, home care organizations that have earned accreditation may typically be most serious about maintaining the quality of care services they provide.

Keep in mind that all accreditation agencies do not adhere to the same qualification requirements or standards themselves. Before hiring a provider make sure you do your research to find out what the exact accreditation procedures are. Each agency has its own procedures standards.
